I am delighted to have been chosen as willwriting partner for Team Evie, a charity who support families with sick children and those who have lost children, across the North East, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and North Lancashire.
Team Evie was created to honour Evie Johnston, who lived for only six months in 2015. You can read about Evie's story here.
Created by Evie's parents Greg and Jill, Team Evie now work to support sick children and their families throughout the north, from Newcastle to Lancaster via Carlisle and Barrow. They provide essential items, peer support, physio equipment, sensory and comfort toys, and even portable libraries to families struggling with sick children in hospital. These times become just a little bit easier for families, so everyone can focus more on the child's recovery.
My own oldest nephew was actually born premature on the same day as Evie at the same hospital. Though he was luckier than Evie, finding this out and remembering how difficult that time was for my brother and his family, brought home to me what a difference Team Evie make to families at their time of need.
To put it simply, Team Evie support families at the worst times they never expected to go through.
