It's not unusual to get a call from someone who wrote a will 20 years ago and can't find it. But this week I heard something new: "We wrote our wills with [solicitor firm] a few years ago, they've now been struck off by the SRA and we are told our wills can't be found".
A good reminder of the importance of storing your will securely. A lot of my clients are young enough that I will retire, and quite probably die, before they die. So if I am storing their wills, I need a system that doesn't depend on me. I use National Will Safe, a third-party organisation, so that if I die or have stopped trading before a client dies, their will is safe and can be found when the time comes.
